It was great to see so many of the same faces tonight that we saw at the Mustaches n’ Monocles party on Thursday!
Here are some highlights from tonight’s meeting:
- Carly Romeo, who founded of FIFE back in 2005, stopped by to visit us and tell us about Feminist Summer Camp! :)

UVA Take Back the Night 2011 is happening next week.
TBTN is an annual program at UVa that hopes to end the silence about dating violence and aid in eliminating sexual violence in our community. The events of the week are meant to provide comfort and empowerment for survivors, friends, families and the community at large.
Week of Events:
- Monday, April 4: How to Date a Survivor Panel, 7pm Maury 209
- Tuesday, April 5: Sexual Assault Board Mock Trial, 7:30pm Minor 125
- Wednesday, April 6: Self-Defense Demonstration, 7:30pm Minor 125
- Art Project: Breaking the Tiles and Making the Mosaic, 5 pm, Eunoia (across from Student Health at JPA and Brandon Ave) Tiles will be available for people to write on at the other Take Back the Night events on Monday and Tuesday.
- Thursday, April 7: Rally, 5-7pm Washington Park (intersection of 14th and Preston) March 7-8pm Vigil 8pm, Amphitheater (rain location: Memorial Gym)
- Friday, April 8: Self Defense Workshops, 4 pm, AFC 2/3
- Saturday, April 9: Yoga Class, 3 pm, AFC 1

They came to UVa 2 years ago and were fantastic! They sold many, many books, buttons, t-shirts and other merchandise that evening; it’s hard to resist buying a t-shirt that says I <3 Female Orgasm on it!

As all advocates of feminist politics know most people do not understand sexism or if they do they think it is not a problem. Masses of people think that feminism is always and only about women seeking to be equal to men. And a huge majority of these folks think feminism is anti-male. “Cecile Richards talked about the role of Planned Parenthood in the federal budget and political debate going on in Congress. The House voted to eliminate fiscal year 2011 federal funding for Planned Parenthood and Title X, which supports contraception services for low-income people. Four Republican senators oppose elimination of the funding. Congress has not reached agreement on a 2011 appropriations bill yet.”
